Calling all climate change warriors, ethical investors, social enterprises, hardworking charities and local community groups – we want to invite you to our drop-in events in Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare on the 11th and 12th of June.

If you are keen to find out more about community energy and the benefits it is providing to Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare including green electricity to power 2,000 homes, a community fund of £3 million for social projects and a fuel poverty campaign then please visit us and let us know how we can support the local area best.

As a local energy company, Burnham and Weston Energy CIC is governed by local directors, and local people and organisations can get involved by volunteering or investing in the solar bond offer to be launched shortly.

With energy costing Burnham and Weston around £360 million per year, (almost all of which leaves the local economy), we’re working towards a future of locally generated, locally owned and low carbon energy; with the value of our energy economy being retained in the area.

£50,000 per year will be available in community surplus, after costs and share interest is paid to investors. Half of the money will initially be used to support a grant fund managed by Somerset Community Foundation, while the remaining 50 per cent will go towards a fuel poverty advice service to help households who struggle with their energy bills, which is an increasing problem in Burnham and Highbridge, and the surrounding parishes.

We are looking for active members of the community who would like to get involved – whether you are part of a local project and feel that you would benefit from grant funding, would like to find out more or help in providing support to people facing fuel poverty, or are a social investor who thinks renewable energy is the way forwards, we want to meet you.
