Do you live in a flat or a Victorian terraced house in Burnham-on-Sea or Highbridge? If so, you could be one of the last two households to receive a free home energy efficiency audit and tailored improvement plan.
Burnham and Weston Energy has had two final spots open up in its Home Energy Efficiency project. With eight homeowners already signed up and retrofit assessments underway, the community energy group is looking for one flat and one Victorian terraced home to complete the pilot.
“This is the last opportunity to get a professional step-by-step retrofit plan tailored to your home completely free of charge” said Jake Burnyeat, a Director of Burnham and Weston Energy. “We’re especially keen to include a Victorian terraced home. These properties are an essential part of our local housing stock and while loved for their character, were built long before insulation or energy efficiency were priorities—often making them draughty and expensive to heat. Including one in the pilot will help us better understand their retrofit needs and develop practical ideas and improvements that should bring the benefit of more comfortable, healthier and more affordable homes.”
Why apply for a free retrofit assessment?
Retrofitting is the process of making changes to an existing building to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Examples of retrofit measures include loft or wall insulation and double or triple glazing. If selected, your home will receive a professional retrofit assessment carried out by the Building Energy Experts and you’ll receive:
- A report on your home’s current energy use.
- A clear step-by-step action plan for energy efficiency improvements.
- Advice on grants and funding support to implement the recommended improvements. Click here to see the schemes available for Burnham and Highbridge and their eligibility criteria.
Why this project matters
This isn’t just about two homes it’s about the whole community! By piloting retrofit assessments across a range of property types in the local area, Burnham and Weston Energy aims to develop practical case-studies and business models that others in the community can follow. The goal is to cut carbon, reduce energy bills and keep more of our energy spend within the local economy. By taking part, you’ll be helping neighbours and fellow homeowners learn how they can save energy too.
