Burnham & Weston Energy (BWE) was delighted to award a £1,500 community grant to Growing at Grove Park, supporting essential improvements to their garden workspace with a new rainwater-harvesting system.
The funding enabled the group to replace the ageing lean-to roof at their volunteer hub in Grove Park, which acts as rainwater guttering connected to water-collection tanks. These upgrades have already made a noticeable difference to the volunteers who help maintain the much-loved community garden.
Volunteers at the group explained that the improvements had made it far easier to carry on working during wet weather without getting soaked. She also noted that the rainwater-collection system has helped reduce water waste and lower bills, as the tanks now collect runoff rainwater that can be reused on the plants.
The rainwater-harvesting system supported Growing at Grove Park’s commitment to sustainable gardening, helping to reduce water consumption and improve the resilience of the garden during dry periods. The upgraded lean-to space also allowed volunteers to continue their work more comfortably throughout the year.
Sunshine Grant Fund – Applications still open!
BWE’s Sunshine Grant Fund is still open, and we warmly welcome applications from local charities, community groups, and volunteer-led initiatives.
The fund supports projects that deliver environmental, social, or educational benefits within Burnham, Highbridge, and Weston-super-Mare areas.
Grants are made possible through BWE’s community-owned solar farm, ensuring the financial benefits of local green energy continue to flow directly back into the community.
