Home Energy Upgrades
in Burnham & Highbridge
Making our homes warmer, healthier, and cheaper to run is one of the biggest opportunities for our community. In 2025, Burnham and Weston Energy carried out a major research project to understand how upgrading local homes could cut bills, reduce carbon emissions, and create local jobs. This work is helping us shape a plan to support households and contractors to make energy upgrades happen.
On this page you’ll find an overview of what we’ve learned, and links to practical resources to help you get started.
What we learned from our research
We looked closely at the housing stock in Burnham and Highbridge, carried out detailed home energy assessments, and modelled the wider community benefits of action. The findings show that:
-
Local homes are diverse – with 14 housing types identified, from older solid-wall homes with high energy use to newer homes needing smaller improvements.
-
Upgrades make a real difference – even modest action like loft insulation or solar panels can cut bills, reduce carbon, and improve comfort.
-
Community-wide action brings big wins – if just a quarter of local homes took up key measures, it could save households £250,000 a year, cut 600 tonnes of carbon, and support 90 new local green jobs.
Upgrade options for your home
From small steps like draught-proofing and LED lighting, through to major upgrades like insulation, solar PV, and heat pumps, there are many ways to improve your home. Each measure has different benefits for energy savings, comfort, and carbon reduction. Visit our page below for information and links to helpful resources on each.
Funding the work
There are several ways to help fund home energy upgrades. Council-backed low-interest loans through Lendology can support insulation or renewable energy improvements, while national and local grant schemes — including the Great British Insulation Scheme and Warm Homes Local Grant — offer help for eligible households to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions. Visit our page below for more information.
Finding trusted local installers
A key barrier for many households is knowing who to trust. We’re working to build a directory of accredited local contractors who can deliver upgrades like insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps. Watch this space.
Making it happen together
Home energy upgrades aren’t just about cutting bills and carbon — they’re about making Burnham and Highbridge’s homes healthier, more comfortable, and future-ready. With the right support, advice, and local skills in place, we can unlock the benefits for everyone.
